ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to eliminate 60% of permanent government positions that have remained vacant for a year or more, as part of a move to revise the existing vacancy structure.
According to a notification issued by the Controller General of Accounts (CGA), the affected positions will be removed from the quotas available for initial and direct recruitment.
The decision, however, does not apply to posts that became vacant because of transfers, postings or promotions.
Following the decision, all relevant accounts offices have been directed to prepare updated vacancy rosters reflecting the revised position.
Government departments and concerned authorities have also been instructed to process pending promotion cases according to the newly revised number of available positions.
