ISLAMABAD: The government of Pakistan has announced public holidays on the occasion of Ashura Muharram, with official notifications confirming nationwide closures for religious observances.
According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, the government has approved public holidays on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, corresponding to 25 and 26 June.
The announcement, made following approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, states that the holidays will apply to all federal government offices and institutions across the country.
Provincial governments have also been directed to take necessary measures in accordance with the announcement and ensure smooth implementation of the holiday schedule.
Authorities are expected to implement special security arrangements during the period of Ashura, as processions, religious gatherings, and Majalis are held across the country to mark the occasion.
Security agencies typically remain on high alert during Muharram to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of participants in religious events.
The government said further administrative arrangements will be coordinated with provincial authorities to manage public movement and ensure peaceful observance of Ashura.
