PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to launch a three-month paid internship program for BS students and graduates, aiming to equip young people with practical experience and enhance their professional skills and employment prospects.
The Higher Education, Archives and Libraries Department has issued a directive to all administrative secretaries, instructing government departments, public institutions, and universities to ensure the availability of internship opportunities under the initiative.
As per the notification of the Higher Education Department, the selected interns under the program will receive a monthly allowance of Rs25,000. Moreover, the program will be completely financed by the government of the province.
The selected interns will be placed in government departments, autonomous institutions, universities, public sector institutions, and other concerned institutions for practical exposure to their respective fields.
All the administrative departments are directed to provide internship positions for BS students and graduates in their affiliated institutes. Besides, the departments have also been directed to appoint focal persons to look after the program.
The notification further states that all departments must submit details of available internship opportunities within 15 days, after which the provincial government will establish a centralized database.
As per the government’s claim, this database will facilitate pairing up of students and graduates to internship programs depending upon their academic background and subject of study.
The officials have mentioned that the move aims at filling the gap between theory and practical experience for the future employment of young graduates.
