Many people enjoy eating whole fruits, while others prefer drinking fruit juice. A new study has examined which option may provide greater health benefits, particularly for the heart.
The study, published in the journal Current Developments in Nutrition, found that eating whole fruit may provide greater protection against cardiovascular disease compared with drinking fruit juice.
Researchers analysed dietary data from more than 371,000 people and considered several factors, including participants age, income, education and smoking habits.
The findings showed that people who consumed fewer whole fruits had higher rates of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease and heart attacks.
The researchers findings suggest that including whole fruits in the diet may be associated with better cardiovascular health than relying on fruit juice.
The study highlights the potential importance of choosing whole fruits as part of a healthy diet, although individual dietary needs can vary.
