KARACHI: Actress Aiman Saleem, daughter of former cricketer Saleem Yousuf, has announced her decision to join the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

The actress made the announcement during a press conference alongside PPP Sindh President Nisar Khuhro, expressing confidence in the party’s leadership, including President Asif Ali Zardari, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Faryal Talpur.

Aiman Saleem said she was joining the party and formally announced her decision to become part of the PPP.

Welcoming her into the party, Nisar Khuhro expressed his pleasure over her decision and extended his greetings to the actress.

During the press conference, Khuhro also addressed the political situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), defending the imposition of governor’s rule in the province.

He said President Asif Ali Zardari had signed the summary for governor’s rule on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He maintained that governor’s rule had been imposed in Pakistan on previous occasions, citing its introduction in Sindh in 1951 and its imposition in the province during General Zia-ul-Haq’s rule.

Khuhro argued that the Constitution allows governor’s rule when the situation in a province deteriorates beyond acceptable limits. He added that the security challenges in KP were longstanding rather than a recent development.

According to Khuhro, political negotiations had not been ruled out, and governor’s rule was not intended to be permanent. He said it could come to an end if political stakeholders reached an agreement on an action plan to combat terrorism.
