MARDAN: The Mardan police on Thursday lodged the First Information Report (FIR) against the Awami National Party (ANP) senior leaders for allegedly displaying weapons in public after the withdrawal of security provided to the party chief Aimal Wali Khan.

According to the FIR, a copy of which is available with Pakhtun Digital, following the closure of official security arrangements for the ANP chief Aimal Wali Khan, the party leaders, including the Mardan city mayor, Himayatullah Mayar, 43 persons were booked for displaying weapons in public.

The FIR is registered at Hoti Police Station in Mardan under various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code. The FIR in which the state is the complainant mentioned that the ANP workers armed themselves and made seditious and threatening speeches against the government and state institutions.

FIR noted that the ANP workers were involved in the protest, kept waving their weapons repeatedly and live-streamed on social media, spreading panic among the public.

Following Mayor Mardan’s speech on Social Media, a large number of workers had reached the district office with weapons.
