ISLAMABAD: The Federal Government rejected reports indicating the scrapping of subsidy on the first 200 units of electricity, stating such claims are “baseless” according to the Ministry of Energy. The ministry stated that there were no plans at all to remove subsidies on electricity usage.

According to the Ministry, electricity distribution firms have taken several steps to ensure that subsidies are provided to the consumers through transparent methods. According to the latest system, consumers will be aware of their monthly subsidy usage.

The Power Division further stated that such measures will help ensure that subsidies are made available to deserving consumers. According to the latest changes, consumers will find a QR code’ in their electricity bill. After scanning the code, the consumer will get the link where he/she needs to sign up.

Officials emphasized that these steps do not indicate the removal of subsidies. The government’s priority remains providing relief to poor and middle-income households. The process is intended to ensure the proper and fair use of public funds, preventing misuse of taxpayers’ money.

The government has advised everyone to apply through the QR code on the electricity bills. If anyone faces any difficulty related to the bill or any other problems, he is advised to contact the helpline numbers of the concerned electricity companies. The government made it clear that its commitment to justice and the rights of the weaker sections would never waver in any situation.
