PESHAWAR (Shahid Jan): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a stay order on the upcoming Senate by-elections, effectively postponing the polling originally scheduled for April 23, 2026.

The decision comes in the wake of a formal request filed by Jalal Khan, a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) member of the Provincial Assembly.

Following the legal intervention, the electoral watchdog halted the process to address the concerns raised by the lawmaker. While the by-elections were expected to fill vacant seats within the upper house, the ECP’s latest directive puts all preparations on hold indefinitely.

Official sources indicate that a new schedule will only be announced after the commission completes its review of the petition. The postponement has triggered a pause in political campaigning across the affected constituencies as parties await further legal and administrative clarity.
