ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has formally initiated the process of fresh delimitation of Village and Neighbourhood Councils in seven districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, issuing key notifications and directives to facilitate the exercise.
According to an official statement, the delimitation process will be carried out in the districts of Khyber, Kurram, Mansehra, Malakand, Shangla, Upper Chitral, and Bajaur.
The ECP has constituted Delimitation Committees for each district, appointing the respective District Election Commissioners as conveners, while Assistant Commissioners and local government officials will serve as committee members.
The commission has directed that no transfers or postings of officials serving on the committees will be allowed until the publication of the final delimitation lists to ensure the integrity and continuity of the process.
In addition, the ECP has established Delimitation Authorities to hear and decide objections raised against the preliminary delimitation proposals.
Under the arrangement, the Regional Election Commissioners of Peshawar, Kohat, Hazara, and Malakand divisions will adjudicate objections within their respective jurisdictions.
Separately, the commission has issued a directive freezing all administrative and revenue boundaries, including tehsils and city council limits, in the seven districts with immediate effect until the completion of the delimitation process, preventing any administrative changes that could affect the exercise.
