The All Pakistan Goods Transporters Alliance has announced a 5 per cent increase in freight charges following a sharp rise in petroleum prices.
Alliance President Malik Shehzad Awan termed the frequent changes in petroleum prices unacceptable and called on the government to withdraw the decision.
In a statement, Malik Shehzad Awan warned that goods transporters would launch another nationwide strike if the government failed to implement the agreements reached with the transporters.
We are announcing a further 5pc increase in goods transport fares, he said, adding that diesel and petrol prices had risen by Rs20 and Rs24 per litre, respectively, over the past four days.
He demanded that if an increase in petroleum prices was unavoidable, the government should provide transporters relief in withholding tax, toll tax and other charges.
Goods transporters across Pakistan had previously gone on strike from Aug 8 to 17 over their demands. The protest was called off after an agreement was reached with the authorities.
