SLAMABAD: The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has made barcode printing and unique serial numbers mandatory for pharmaceutical and biological medicines as part of efforts to improve drug traceability.
Under the new system, medicines manufactured from October 19, 2026 will be required to carry barcodes and unique serial numbers on their packaging.
Medicines without the required barcodes will not be allowed to be sold in the market after the implementation deadline.
The new digital system will enable authorities to track medicines throughout the supply chain, from manufacturing to their availability to patients.
DRAP has directed pharmaceutical manufacturers to prepare for the new requirements and announced training workshops for industry representatives in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
