NAYPYIDAW: A powerful explosion in Myanmar’s eastern Shan State has killed at least 55 people, including 25 women, and injured dozens more, according to local reports.
The blast occurred in the Kong Tate area of Shan State, a region reportedly under the control of separatist groups. Initial reports suggest the incident was linked to materials stored for mining purposes.
As per international media sources, Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), which operates in the area, has said that the explosion was accidental in nature, and casualties had occurred, both civilian and non-civilian, and damage to property in the surrounding areas as well.
The TNLA has extended its heartfelt condolences to all the people who died in the accident and wishes a quick recovery to the injured individuals. Further, there is an investigation process going on, and the people involved will be penalized after the determination of the exact cause of the explosion.
According to local media reports, “25 women and 30 men lost their lives due to an explosion.” People have experienced a huge explosion, and it is like being hit by an air strike.
There has been no official announcement regarding the cause of this incident till now, as the area is surrounded by ongoing clashes between some militants and the military government of Myanmar.
