RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s top military leadership on Monday reaffirmed its commitment to continuing intelligence-based counterterrorism operations, stressing that the armed forces would take all necessary measures to safeguard the country’s sovereignty, national security and public safety.
The pledge came during the 276th Corps Commanders’ Conference, chaired by Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The forum offered prayers for the country’s martyrs, describing their sacrifices as the foundation of Pakistan’s security, unity and resilience.
The conference expressed serious concern over what it described as the continued use of Afghan territory under the control of the Afghan Taliban by Indian-backed militant groups to plan and launch attacks against Pakistan. The participants said lasting peace and stability in the region depended on preventing the use of Afghan territory for cross-border militancy.
According to the ISPR, the military leadership said it was the responsibility of the Afghan Taliban authorities to ensure that territory under their control was not used for terrorist activities against Pakistan. The forum reiterated that Pakistan reserved the right to defend its people against terrorism.
The conference said the armed forces would continue intelligence-based operations under Operation Ghazab-ul-Haq against militant threats originating from across the border. Participants also underscored the need for effective governance in terrorism-affected areas, saying stronger administrative institutions were essential to improving public service delivery and dismantling links between terrorism, crime and political patronage.
The commanders said hostile elements, following what they termed a defeat in the “Battle for Truth,” were attempting to fuel instability through hybrid warfare and disinformation campaigns. They vowed that any externally backed efforts to create unrest would be dealt with firmly.
The forum also reviewed regional developments and acknowledged Pakistan’s role in promoting regional stability and reducing tensions.
Discussing India’s recent statements on the Indus Waters Treaty, the conference said the National Security Committee’s directives issued on April 24, 2025, provided clear guidance on the matter. It added that the armed forces would take all necessary measures, in accordance with government directives and the aspirations of the Pakistani people, to safeguard the country’s legitimate share of water resources.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s position on the Kashmir dispute, the participants described Kashmir as the country’s “jugular vein” and said lasting peace in South Asia depended on granting the people of Kashmir their right to self-determination in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Addressing the conference, Field Marshal Asim Munir directed commanders to accelerate implementation of the military’s multi-domain transformation plan to meet the evolving character of modern warfare and reiterated that Pakistan’s sovereignty and national interests would be protected at all costs.
