BANNU: Two police personnel were martyred and two others injured when security forces foiled a major attack on a police station in Bannu, officials said.
According to the police, militants tried to target Fateh Khel Police Station through a Vehicle Born Improvised Explosive Device (VEBD). The security forces posted there took prompt action and fired upon the attackers, which prevented the vehicle from reaching its destination.
Two officials of the police force were killed during the collapse of the roof of the police post following the explosion, while two policemen suffered injuries. The blast was so strong that it resulted in partial destruction of the police post.
Besides, several residential buildings were affected due to the intense explosion, in which some people got injured because of collapsing roofs and debris in the nearby houses.
The Emergency Forces reached the site of incident soon and cordon and search operations are being carried out to locate those responsible for the explosion.
Security authorities further informed that a clearance operation is ongoing in the area.
