The Sindh government has reversed its earlier decision to abolish the weekly Saturday holiday in educational institutions, announcing that all public and private schools across the province will now observe Saturdays as a weekly off day.
To compensate for the lost teaching time and ensure continuity in academic activities, the government has decided to extend daily classroom hours by one hour.
According to officials, the decision has been taken as part of the provincial government’s austerity measures and efforts to conserve energy resources, while ensuring that educational standards remain unaffected.
The latest move marks a reversal of the policy introduced after the summer vacation, under which schools were directed to remain open six days a week from August 1, 2026. That notification applied to all government and private educational institutions across Sindh.
Provincial Minister for Education Syed Sardar Ali Shah later issued a clarification through his official social media platform regarding the revised policy.
Under the updated decision, schools will once again observe a weekly holiday on Saturdays, while daily teaching hours will be increased by one hour to make up for the reduced number of instructional days.
