ISLAMABAD: The federal government has approved the deployment of the Pakistan Army in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to assist the civil administration in protecting citizens, safeguarding public property and government installations, and addressing security threats posed by terrorist groups and armed elements.

The Ministry of Interior has issued a formal notification authorising the deployment under Article 245 of the Constitution of Pakistan.

According to the notification, the deployment aims to support the civil administration in maintaining security and protecting the lives and property of citizens amid concerns over terrorism and threats to public safety in the province.

Army to Assist Civil Administration

Under the notification, the Pakistan Army will be responsible for assisting in the protection of citizens, public property and government installations during the period covered by the emergency imposed on October 11, 2026.

The deployment is intended to strengthen security arrangements and enable the civil administration to respond more effectively to security challenges, including terrorist attacks and threats from armed groups.

Troop Strength to Be Finalised in Consultation with GHQ

The notification states that the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will determine the required troop strength in consultation with General Headquarters (GHQ).

The number of troops to be deployed will be decided in coordination with the Military Operations Directorate.

Deployment to Continue During Emergency

According to the Ministry of Interior’s notification, the army’s deployment will remain in effect for the duration of the emergency imposed in the province on October 11, 2026.

The order concerning the deployment of the Pakistan Army will also be published in Part II of the Gazette of Pakistan.
