TEHRAN: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has claimed that US President Donald Trump has requested negotiations with Tehran, adding that Iran is currently reviewing the proposal.
According to a statement issued by Araghchi, the move on part of Washington was due to its inability to meet its objectives in the fight against Tehran. “We can say that the US has not managed to get what it wanted,” he stated.
The comments were made amid the tension that has continued to persist between the two nations. Although there has been no confirmation of the move from Washington, it indicates a shift towards dialogue.
On the other hand, the role of Russia seems to play an important mediator in helping both the nations. In a recent meeting in Moscow, President Vladimir Putin of Russia highlighted that his nation could help stabilize the situation in the region.
He mentioned that Russia would continue working towards the strategic partnership with Iran.
Araghchi, speaking after the meeting, highlighted the strength of Iran–Russia relations, describing them as a strategic partnership that is expected to deepen further. He also expressed gratitude to Moscow for its continued support amid heightened geopolitical tensions.
Trump claims Iran reached out, calls situation a “State of Collapse”
Meanwhile, in a major development regarding the ongoing Middle East crisis, President Donald J. Trump announced via social media that the Iranian government has reached out to the United States, claiming to be in a “State of Collapse.”
According to the President, Iranian officials have requested the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz as the country’s leadership struggles to manage internal instability. The strategically vital waterway has been a focal point of global tension, with dual blockades and naval skirmishes significantly impacting international oil markets.
In his statement, President Trump expressed confidence that Iran would eventually be able to resolve its internal “leadership situation.” While the President did not specify which Iranian officials conveyed this message, the claim follows weeks of intense economic and military pressure from the United States and its allies.
The Iranian government has not yet officially confirmed these reports, and the situation in the region remains fluid as the US evaluates the request to restore passage through the strait.
