NEW YORK: Apple’s first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, went on sale at Apple Store locations worldwide, attracting customers for hands-on demonstrations and in-store shopping support.

The company marked the launch by sharing photographs of customers trying the new device at stores in several cities, including Shanghai, New York, London and Mumbai. Apple teams offered product demonstrations, personalised shopping assistance and support for transferring data to the new phone.

The iPhone Duo features a foldable design, a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer screen. It runs a version of iOS 27 tailored to the device, allowing users to switch between screen positions and run two applications side by side. Apple says the design supports multitasking, gaming and content viewing.

Apple opened preorders on October 16 ahead of the global retail launch. The company has warned that store supplies for customers arriving without preorders would be limited, while strong initial demand pushed delivery estimates for some online orders into January.

In several countries, including China, India and the United Arab Emirates, in-store pickup is restricted to customers who placed orders in advance. Customers can check local availability through Apple’s website and the Apple Store app before visiting a store.

Apple is also offering setup assistance to help buyers transfer their data and understand the device’s features. Available purchase options, including trade-in programmes, financing and carrier offers, depend on the market. The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 in the United States for the 256GB model. It is available in additional storage configurations, including 512GB, 1TB and 2TB.

In Pakistan, Mercantile, Apple’s authorised distributor, launched the device on October 23. The 256GB model starts at Rs899,999, according to local reports. The launch gives Pakistani buyers access to the foldable smartphone through the distributor’s local offering.

The iPhone Duo marks Apple’s entry into the foldable smartphone market, combining a larger internal screen with a compact outer display for everyday use.
