Nine civilians, including women and children, were martyred and 12 were injured in the Taliban regime’s unprovoked cross-border firing and shelling in the border areas of Mamond and Salarzai in Bajaur district over the last two months.
According to a press release issued by the district administration, these incidents took place during February, March, and April 2026. The Afghan Taliban deliberately targeted the civilian population in the areas of Laghri Mamond and Tariya Shah Salarzai. This aggression not only caused a precious loss of life but also destroyed eight residential houses.
The martyrs, two women, Babu Bibi and Darvesh, were martyred in Bara Laghri Mamond in February, while in March, four innocent children of the same family, Riaz, Fayyaz, Muaz, and Sajid, were martyred in Tariya Shah Salarzai due to Afghan shelling. Similarly, on April 15, Saeeda Bibi, Muaz, and Azma Bibi were martyred in another firing in Bara Laghori.
The 12 injured, including women and children, were immediately provided emergency medical assistance by the district administration and security forces, and after initial treatment, they were shifted to Peshawar for better treatment in view of their critical condition.
The district administration of Bajaur has started steps to provide immediate relief to the affected areas and to restore the damaged houses. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Bajaur, the timely action of the administration has played a significant role in bringing the situation under control, and financial compensation will be provided to the heirs of the martyrs, the injured, and those whose houses have been destroyed very soon.
On the other hand, the local population has expressed deep grief and anger over this aggression of the Taliban regime. On April 16, 2026, a large number of regional elders and youth held a protest demonstration and demanded that the Afghan Taliban immediately stop such irresponsible actions to avoid further loss of life and property on both sides of the border.
Security forces have reiterated their commitment that they are constantly monitoring the situation and that all possible steps will be taken to protect the public.
