TORKHAM: A total of 724 trucks carrying humanitarian assistance have reached Afghanistan through the Torkham border crossing as Pakistan continues to facilitate the delivery of relief supplies to vulnerable Afghan communities.
According to sources, the consignments included food, essential commodities and other relief supplies intended for families affected by humanitarian needs in Afghanistan.
Officials said the 724-truck aid shipment has crossed into Afghanistan and will be distributed among families in need. The relief supplies were provided by various international agencies and humanitarian organizations.
The facilitation of humanitarian shipments comes amid continued border tensions and prolonged disruptions to trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Authorities have maintained that the Torkham corridor is being facilitated for the movement of humanitarian assistance.
Officials said priority was being given to ensuring the timely delivery of relief supplies to vulnerable Afghan families.
UN has stated that the humanitarian needs of Afghanistan continue to be substantial with international agencies still providing food and other necessities to the population.
The UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Pakistan, Hamish Young, thanked the Government of Pakistan for its cooperation in facilitating the delivery of humanitarian supplies to Afghanistan.
