PESHAWAR: Authorities in Peshawar have finalized preparations for a door-to-door operation against undocumented Afghan nationals residing in the city, according to official sources.
Sources said details of more than one million undocumented Afghan migrants residing in the province have been compiled, while a targeted operation is expected to be carried out during nighttime hours.
Authorities have also prepared lists of Afghan nationals residing in various parts of Peshawar and shared the information with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), police and other law enforcement agencies, sources said.
According to the sources, around 10,000 Afghan nationals in the province are currently residing on visas, while approximately 3,000 Afghan students who entered Pakistan on student visas and are enrolled in religious seminaries and other educational institutions have also been identified.
The authorities have reportedly identified areas with significant concentrations of undocumented Afghan nationals in Peshawar. These include Hayatabad, Peshawar Board, Nasir Bagh Road, Nasir Bagh Afghan Colony, Ring Road, Latifabad, Bashirabad, Eidgah Colony and Zargarabad, as well as surrounding areas.
Other locations identified include parts of Charsadda Road, areas around the University of Peshawar, Namak Mandi and Nawazabad, among other residential localities.
The operation is expected to involve police, the FIA and other law enforcement agencies. Officials have not yet publicly announced a specific date for the start of the operation.
