PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Abdul Ghani Afridi has called for an inquiry into the citizenship and constitutional eligibility of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly member Jalal Khan, urging the provincial assembly speaker to refer the matter to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
In a letter shared on social media and addressed to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, Afridi requested that the issue be formally referred to the ECP and other relevant authorities for a comprehensive and impartial investigation.
According to the letter, Afridi claimed to possess evidence that raises questions regarding Jalal Khan’s citizenship status and his constitutional and legal eligibility to serve as a member of the provincial assembly.
He urged the speaker to treat the matter seriously and send an official reference or communication to the Election Commission and other concerned institutions to ensure a transparent and unbiased review of the lawmaker’s citizenship and assembly membership.
Afridi stated that if the relevant authorities conclude that Jalal Khan does not meet the constitutional and legal requirements for membership of the provincial assembly, appropriate action should be taken in accordance with the law.
He further said he was prepared to present the evidence in his possession before the appropriate forum and emphasised that the matter should be decided strictly on the basis of the Constitution, applicable laws and credible evidence.
Afridi also reaffirmed his willingness to cooperate fully with any legal investigation conducted by the relevant authorities.
