PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has pledged to prioritise peace, public safety and the elimination of terrorism, saying the province’s people deserve lasting security, development and prosperity.
Addressing the first meeting of the 11-member Advisory Council on Sunday, Kundi said the province faced numerous challenges but stressed that the federal government and the public had placed their trust in the new administrative arrangement, which must deliver tangible results.
The governor announced a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, adding that committees would not be formed merely for announcements and then forgotten after a few months.
“Our first priority is the restoration of law and order and the elimination of terrorism,” he said, emphasising that peace must come before development and other priorities.
Governor Addresses KP Residents
In his message to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kundi said extraordinary constitutional measures had been taken in view of the province’s unusual circumstances.
He said he did not wish to engage in political debate or accusations, stressing that his message was focused on taking the province towards peace, development and prosperity.
Kundi acknowledged the sacrifices made by the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the fight against terrorism, saying it was time to ensure that residents received the peace they deserved.
“Our war is against the mindset and networks that facilitate terrorism and undermine the writ of the government,” he said, adding that the state was determined to free the province’s people from terrorists.
He described public safety and the restoration of peace as his foremost priorities.
Coordinated Action Against Terrorism
The governor said coordinated operations would be carried out against terrorists, while efforts would be made to provide the police with modern equipment and resources.
He stressed that police personnel should have the full support of the state in carrying out their duties.
Kundi also pledged to strengthen the state’s writ in districts most severely affected by terrorism and improve facilities for communities affected by violence.
He said the government would work to ensure the provision of basic services, adding that the state existed to serve its citizens, not the other way around.
The governor further identified strengthening the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), alongside the police, as a priority in combating terrorism.
Extraordinary Measures Not Targeted at Political Parties
Kundi clarified that the extraordinary measures taken in the province were not intended to target any political party or individual.
He said the ultimate objective was to dismantle the ecosystem of terrorism, including networks supporting terrorists and those facilitating their activities, in accordance with the law.
Effective implementation of the National Action Plan and counterterrorism measures would remain a priority, he added.
The governor also emphasised the importance of providing young people with education, opportunities and hope rather than allowing them to be drawn towards violence.
“The state’s objective is to ensure the rule of law and provide facilities to the people,” he said.
Public Urged to Report Terrorist Activity
Kundi urged citizens to report information about terrorism or the facilitation of terrorist activities to the relevant authorities.
He said people who remained within the bounds of the law would have access to the available facilities and services.
Acknowledging the scale of the challenges facing the province, he expressed confidence that peace would return to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the state’s writ would be strengthened.
He also pledged to promote tourism and continue working to empower the public.
Concluding his address, the governor reiterated that restoring peace, protecting citizens and improving governance would remain central to the administration’s priorities.
