PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has criticised the recent political situation in the province, accusing certain groups of lacking seriousness and calling for stronger measures to combat terrorism.
Speaking at a press conference in Peshawar, the governor said the public had witnessed the situation in the province over the past several days. He described the long march as a “circus” and claimed that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had rejected the political approach behind it.
Kundi said the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stood with those fighting against terrorism and rejected the idea that the province’s policies should be dictated from Kabul.
Governor Questions Implementation of National Action Plan
The governor questioned the implementation of the National Action Plan, asking what practical steps had been taken to address the province’s security challenges.
He said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police were facing a shortage of personnel and argued that the existing force was insufficient to meet the province’s security needs.
“We want an additional force to be established, but you have been unable to fulfil this requirement,” Kundi said, criticising the provincial authorities over what he described as shortcomings in law enforcement capacity.
Kundi also raised concerns about police infrastructure in the merged districts, stating that police lines had been established in some areas but that seven districts were still without such facilities.

He questioned how police personnel could effectively perform their duties without the necessary infrastructure and facilities.
The governor emphasised the need to strengthen law enforcement capabilities to improve security across the province.
During the press conference, Kundi also criticised certain political figures for what he described as their reluctance to speak openly against Afghanistan or terrorist groups.
He questioned who suffered the consequences when drone attacks originated from Kabul, arguing that ordinary Pashtuns were among those affected.
The governor further alleged that certain individuals were facilitating terrorist elements, although he did not provide specific evidence for the allegation in the reported remarks.
Kundi’s comments come amid ongoing security concerns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where strengthening police capacity, improving security infrastructure and implementing counterterrorism measures remain key challenges.
