ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet on Sunday recommended that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif advise President Asif Ali Zardari to impose emergency rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,
The emergency will be imposed under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution, citing the deteriorating law and order situation in the province. The decision was taken at a federal cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where members were briefed on the security situation and the rising threat of terrorism in KP.
According to the cabinet’s position, the provincial government’s alleged deliberate disengagement from the fight against terrorism was also considered during the review of the situation. The cabinet recommended that the prime minister advise the president to exercise his constitutional powers to impose emergency rule in the province in view of the seriousness of the situation.
Following the decision, the Prime Minister’s House sent the advice to the President’s House.
