KARAK – In a tragic incident of terrorism, the Station House Officer of Banda Dawood Shah Police Station, Daud Khan, and his gunman embraced martyrdom when unidentified armed men opened fire on a police patrol in District Karak of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to District Police Officer Karak Imran Khan, the police party of Banda Dawood Shah Police Station was on its routine patrol when the attack took place near the New Karpa area, close to the boundary between Kohat and Karak districts.

Heavily armed assailants ambushed the police van and opened indiscriminate fire. As a result of the intense firing, SHO Dawood Khan was martyred on the spot along with his gunman, Constable Farhad.

A passer-by who was present near the scene was also injured in the firing and was shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Immediately after the incident, heavy contingents of police and law enforcement agencies reached the spot.

The area has been completely cordoned off, and a large-scale search and strike operation has been launched to arrest the culprits involved in the cowardly attack. Karak is considered a sensitive district where police have been frequently targeted by terrorist elements, and this is the second major attack on Karak police in recent months. Police officials have condemned the attack and said the sacrifices of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police in the war against terrorism will not go in vain.

The funeral prayers of the martyred officers will be offered with full official honours at the Police Lines. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
