The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued important guidelines for individuals applying for a Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) for the first time.
According to a statement issued by NADRA, individuals who have turned 18 and want to apply for their first CNIC but whose parents or siblings are not registered or available in NADRA records must complete certain documentation and verification requirements before submitting their applications.
Applicants are required to bring a verified Computerised Birth Certificate, Citizenship Certificate or Naturalisation Certificate.
They must also provide two biometric witnesses who are CNIC holders aged 18 or above. Preference will be given to relatives from the applicant’s paternal or maternal side.
If such relatives are unavailable, a person from the same locality may serve as a witness, provided they hold a CNIC or NICOP and personally know the applicant.
NADRA further said applicants must submit an Affidavit B in the prescribed format. The application form must also be attested by an authorised person in accordance with Regulation 9.
Applicants are advised to bring any additional documents related to their identity or family relationship, if available, and visit their nearest NADRA Registration Centre to submit the application.
