ISLAMABAD: In a major development, a joint committee formed for negotiations between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will meet the PTI leadership today.

The joint committee was formed yesterday during a meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at Aiwan-e-Sadr.

Who are in the committee?

According to Aiwan-e-Sadr, the committee includes Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Rana Sanaullah, Amir Muqam, Sherry Rehman, Naveed Qamar and Ejaz Jakhrani.The joint delegation of the government and PPP will hold talks with the PTI leadership on the current political situation and matters of mutual interest.

Yesterday, President and Prime Minister also held a detailed discussion on the overall political and security situation of the country. Expressing concern over the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, they reviewed national security and stressed the need for effective cooperation among relevant institutions to further strengthen national resolve against terrorism.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Rana Sanaullah, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan, PM’s Advisor Dr. Tauqir Shah, Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, Sharjeel Inam Memon and Nasir Hussain Shah.

Rana Sanaullah has already hinted that back-channel talks are underway between the government and PTI, and if they fail, Governor’s Rule in KP is also under consideration.
