PESHAWAR: Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur has confirmed that a viral photograph showing stitches on his body is genuine.
While talking to private news channel, Gandapur said the injury was from an old wound that, according to him, had resulted from alleged torture while he was in custody following the May 9 events.
He said the wound had been under treatment, but worsening pain recently required surgery, during which he received nine stitches.
Gandapur said he had previously raised the matter before the prime minister during a meeting of the Apex Committee while he was serving as chief minister.
He also criticised what he described as propaganda by some party members concerning his health, calling it inappropriate.

Despite doctors’ advice to rest, Gandapur said he continued participating in party activities. He added that he was also involved in preparations for the planned September 27 street movement.
“Stitches cannot become my weakness,” Gandapur said, adding that he would continue his efforts for the release of PTI founder Imran Khan.
The development comes a day after Gandapur was reportedly taken to a hospital after experiencing neck pain following his recent surgery. Doctors examined him, provided initial treatment and advised him to take complete rest.
