PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police has introduced a digital driving license across the province to facilitate citizens and make license verification more convenient.
According to police, citizens can obtain their digital driving license through a mobile application by entering their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) number. The e-license can reportedly be generated within minutes and displayed on a mobile phone.
Traffic officials in Peshawar have been directed to recognize the digital driving license as a valid legal document. Citizens displaying their e-license on a mobile phone will not be fined solely for failing to carry a physical driving license.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Peshawar Dr Muhammad Zahid said the introduction of the digital driving license was an important step toward greater use of technology in traffic policing.
YouTuber’s Haircut Inside DPO Office Sparks Inquiry
Earlier, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police (IGP) has taken notice of a viral video showing a YouTuber getting a haircut inside the office of the District Police Officer (DPO) Haripur and ordered an inquiry into the incident.
The video circulating on social media shows a man having his hair cut inside the DPO office. According to police officials, the man seen in the video is a YouTuber who had visited the office.
The IGP directed Regional Police Officer (RPO) Hazara to conduct an inquiry into the matter.
Police officials said the barber came to the DPO office and cut the YouTuber’s hair. They added that DPO Haripur Shafiullah Gandapur was not present in the office when the video was recorded.
Sources quoted the YouTuber as saying that he had gone to the DPO office for an interview related to the Ayat Noor case. According to the sources, the YouTuber faced difficult questions during the interview, after which the DPO allegedly remarked that his hair needed to be fixed.
The sources further claimed that a barber, identified as Rustam, was subsequently called from his home to cut the YouTuber’s hair.
The incident has drawn attention on social media, prompting police authorities to seek clarification through a formal inquiry.
He said the initiative would make it easier for citizens to access their driving licenses while providing greater convenience to the public.
