Active monsoon currents interacting with a strengthening westerly wave are driving wet and stormy weather across Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, bringing heavy downpours, the risk of urban flooding, and landslides to vulnerable sectors.
In Islamabad and the surrounding Pothohar region, intermittent rain, wind, and thundershowers are affecting the area with localized heavy to very heavy falls during peak hours. Daytime temperatures in the capital hover between 31°C and 34°C with high humidity, while nighttime lows drop near 21°C. Meteorological authorities have warned that persistent heavy spells could lead to urban water pooling and localized flooding in low-lying sectors of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain, wind, and thundershowers with scattered heavy falls are affecting both upper mountainous terrain and central plain districts. Regions heavily affected include Peshawar, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Abbottabad, and Mansehra. While major plain cities like Peshawar experience hot and humid breaks between weather systems with highs touching 34°C to 35°C, hilly and northern tracts remain significantly cooler.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority and PMD have issued advisories cautioning travelers and residents about potential flash floods in local streams and nullahs, alongside risks of landslides blocking roads in mountainous districts like Swat, Dir, Kohistan, and Shangla.
