PESHAWAR: More than 464,000 students could not be admitted to the government schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) against the target fixed under the 2026 enrolment campaign, with the province being able to achieve 60 percent progress so far.
As per the district-wise enrolment report shared by the Elementary and Secondary Education Department, 696,533 students had been admitted against the provincial target of 1,161,203 new admissions, including those who are out of school, up to 4 pm on 17th of August, 2026.
The data revealed that there were 427,254 admissions of boys against the target of 653,261, which is equal to 65 percent progress. As for girls, 269,279 admissions had been made against the target of 507,942, which is equal to 53 percent progress.
Abbottabad witnessed the highest performance with an enrolment rate of 102 percent against the target. This is followed by 98 percent in Mansehra, 94 percent in Upper Chitral and Upper Dir, making them some of the best performing districts in the province.
Swat witnessed a 90 percent progress, followed by 89 percent in Lower Chitral, 87 percent in Charsadda and 86 percent in Buner. While 79 percent progress was seen in Malakand, 76 percent in Haripur and 23 percent in Upper Kohistan.
However, the enrolment rates in several districts have seen much lower progress. In case of Lower South Waziristan, the progress is at just 15 percent, 23 percent in Upper Kohistan, 25 percent in Upper South Waziristan and 28 percent in North Waziristan.
The progress in Lower Kohistan was at 32 percent, while in Hangu and Kurram it was at 38 percent each.
The progress in enrolment was seen at 54 percent in Khyber, 53 percent in Bajaur, 57 percent in Bannu, 43 percent in Dera Ismail Khan, 44 percent in Peshawar and 49 percent in Nowshera.
