DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Dera Ismail Khan has withdrawn a student’s third position in the 2026 Matric annual examinations after initially declaring her a position holder and presenting her with an award at an official ceremony.
According to details, the board initially announced the student as the third-position holder and honoured her at the results ceremony. However, officials later discovered that she had appeared in the examination as an improvement candidate.
Under the applicable rules, students appearing under an improvement case are not eligible for positions. Following a review of the record, the board withdrew the third position previously awarded to the student.
In a clarification, the board said the decision was taken after reviewing the merit list and identifying the student’s improvement status.
The incident has raised questions among students, parents and members of the education community over the verification process used before announcing examination results and positions.
Students and parents have questioned why the student was declared a position holder and honoured at an official ceremony if the board had not completed verification of candidates’ records beforehand.
They also stressed that errors in the announcement of academic positions can have a serious impact on a student’s confidence, reputation and emotional well-being, making thorough verification of examination records and improvement cases essential before final positions are announced.
