PESHAWAR: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has intensified its crackdown on fake and suspicious identity documents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, issuing notices to more than 1,000 additional holders of suspicious Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs).
The authority has directed those served notices to appear at their respective NADRA offices within 15 days along with all required documents. Officials have warned that CNICs of individuals who fail to appear within the stipulated period will be blocked.
According to NADRA officials, notices have so far been issued to more than 8,000 individuals across the province as part of the ongoing scrutiny of suspicious identity documents.
The latest list reportedly includes individuals from Jhelum district and various tehsils, who have been identified for further verification of their identity records.
NADRA officials have also raised concerns over reports of Afghan nationals allegedly obtaining Pakistani identity cards through illegal means. Monitoring of suspicious individuals and identity documents has consequently been tightened across the province.
Those served notices have been instructed to appear before the relevant NADRA office within the given deadline and provide supporting documentation for verification.
According to officials, individuals who fail to follow these instructions would have their CNIC blocked, and additional steps might be taken against those people who raise suspicion as well as their families after proper verification.
This campaign forms an important part of the ongoing work of NADRA to prevent the misuse of identity cards of Pakistanis.
