In a major achievement for adventure tourism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a 9-member KP mountaineering team has successfully reached the 6,050-meter-high Thalou Zum peak on Swat Chitral border.
The team raised the national flag on the top after an 8-day challenging expedition, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Authority said. The Thalou Zum expedition began on July 9 and the peak was summited on July 17.
Thalou Zum, part of the Hindukush mountain range, is considered one of the most difficult and least-climbed peaks.The climbers from different districts of KP crossed difficult routes in Kumrat and Chitral, including glaciers and ice crevasses. Ice screws were installed at the most dangerous sections to advance. After nearly 8 hours of continuous climbing, the team reached the summit.Team Members
The expedition included 9 climbers from across KP named Ruhullah, Umar Khan, Intikhab Khan, Noman Sami, Izzatullah Shah, Saeed Akhtar, Naeem Khan, Fawad Khan and Rawaz Ali. The team represented Swat, Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Bisham and Chitral.Officials React
Advisor to the CM on Tourism, Malik Adeel Iqbal, congratulated the team and said, “The youth of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have made history.” He added that the KP government is taking steps to promote adventure tourism in the province. “This success will prove to be an important milestone in the promotion of technical mountaineering in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he said.
The climbers also thanked the KP Culture and Tourism Authority for its technical support, which they said was crucial in summiting the peak.About Thalou Zum
Thalou Zum was first climbed in 1971 by an Australian team and then again in 2019 by Italian mountaineers. The KP team’s ascent marks one of the few successful summits of the peak.The Tourism Authority said the achievement highlights KP’s potential as a hub for high-altitude adventure and technical mountaineering.
