PESHAWAR: A total of 16 flood protection and irrigation infrastructure rehabilitation schemes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remained incomplete despite the lapse of their scheduled completion deadlines.
According to official documents, work progress is either slow or completely suspended, causing further delay in the completion of these ongoing schemes launched in different parts of the province. Only 69.47 per cent progress has been made on the first project of CRBC Irrigation Scheme in Dera Ismail Khan and 69.07 percent on the second canal project, while the final completion date of both projects was set as January 9, 2026.
Similarly, the project for rehabilitation of DI Khan irrigation drains and FCC, which was to be completed by April 5, 2026, has been done only 81.23 per cent so far. Apart from that, a project for rehabilitation of flood protection structures in Dir Irrigation Division is also delayed. The worst situation has come to light in Bannu Irrigation where the set deadline was July 10, 2024; there is zero progress on the project, while work on the flood prevention project in Marwat Canal Irrigation Division has also been completely suspended.
The documents further revealed that work progress in some projects is slightly better, but they too could not be completed on time. Only 93.88 per cent of work was completed on the Nowshera and Peshawar Canal Irrigation Project, whose deadline was May 28, 2025, while only 64.01 percent progress was made on the project to restore structures around the Nowshera-Mardan Road Bridge, despite the deadline of February 16, 2026.
In addition, the repair project of Malakand Irrigation Division, whose completion deadline was December 20, 2025 now reached 87.60 per cent, Chitral Irrigation Division 89.50 per cent, and the rehabilitation project in Peshawar Canal Division has reached 97.90 percent. The completion period of both Swat Irrigation Division-1 and 2 projects was set for May 21, 2025. However, only 88.22 per cent of the work has been completed so far.
