Bridgetown: Cricket legend Sir Garfield Sobers of the West Indies team has passed away at the age of 89.

Sir Garfield Sobers represented the West Indies in 93 Test matches, scoring more than 8,000 runs and claiming 235 wickets in his career.

Sobers played 383 matches, amassing over 28,000 runs and taking more than 1,000 wickets, cementing his status as one of the sport’s finest all-round performers in first-class cricket.

Sir Garfield Sobers also made history as the first cricketer to hit six sixes in a single over, a feat he achieved in first-class cricket that remains one of the game’s most iconic milestones.

Renowned for his elegant batting, versatile bowling, and exceptional fielding, Sobers’ contributions transformed the game and inspired generations of cricketers around the world.
