ISLAMABAD: The government may lift restrictions on new household LNG connections in September if supply from Qatar improves, according to sources in the Petroleum Division.
Sources said the suspension of new domestic LNG connections could be ended once Qatar’s force majeure on LNG supplies expires. Qatar has maintained the force majeure status until August, which affected LNG availability and disrupted regular supplies.
Officials expect LNG availability to improve from September following the end of the supply restrictions. A decline in LNG demand from the power sector during the same period is also expected to create additional room for domestic consumers.
However, the final decision on restoring new LNG connections will be taken after a detailed review of the supply situation and market conditions, sources added.
The government had suspended new household LNG connections in May 2026 following disruptions in LNG supplies, as authorities focused on managing available resources and maintaining supply stability.
The Petroleum Division is monitoring the situation and will decide on the resumption of connections based on future LNG availability and demand trends.
