PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of possible landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to heavy rainfall while flash floods may also occur in parts of the province.
According to the Met Office, intense rainfall in the upper districts could trigger flash flooding, particularly in hilly and mountainous regions. Strong winds and lightning associated with the weather system may also damage vulnerable structures, including solar panels, electricity poles and billboards.
The department said most districts of the province are expected to experience partly cloudy conditions, while southern districts are likely to remain hot and humid.
Rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms is forecast in Upper and Lower Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Shangla, Malakand, Buner, Bajaur, Upper and Lower Kohistan, Kolai-Palas and Torghar.
Similar weather conditions are expected in Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Mardan, Swabi, Mohmand, Khyber, Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Kohat, Karak, Hangu, Kurram, Orakzai and Bannu.
The Met Office further said that Dera Ismail Khan, Tank and the Waziristan districts may also receive rain accompanied by strong winds, thunderstorms and, at isolated locations, heavy downpours.
Meanwhile, rainfall recorded during the previous 24 hours included 59 millimetres in Kakul, 29mm in Bajaur, 13mm in Malam Jabba, 12mm in Bannu, 7mm each in Dir and Kalam, 5mm each in Dera Ismail Khan and Swat, and 2mm in Peshawar.
