ISLAMABAD: Pakistani women and female students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds have been invited to apply for the Scotland Pakistan Scholarships for Young Women and Girls 2026-27, with the application deadline extended to September 15, 2026.
The scholarship programme, launched by the British Council in partnership with the Scottish Government, aims to help women in Pakistan pursue higher education and improve access to quality academic opportunities.
More than 25,000 Pakistani women and girls have been reached since the start of the programme in 2013.
James Hampson, the British Council Country Director for Pakistan, said that over the last ten years, the scheme had assisted many women and girls in accessing education both in school and college levels.
He said that the programme was making quality education affordable and providing more opportunities to young women in Pakistan.
These scholarships can be accessed by eligible women students who are studying for Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees in any HEC recognised institutions in Pakistan.
Some of the areas covered by this scholarship scheme include education, agriculture and food security, sustainable energy, health science, climate change and other STEM related fields. Applications are also being accepted for Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in STEM disciplines.
Under the programme, selected students will receive coverage of their tuition fees. Financial assistance for university accommodation may also be provided to students based on their financial need.
Students residing in on-campus accommodation will additionally receive support for travel between their home and university twice a year.
Master’s students may also receive research funding to access laboratories, equipment and other facilities required for their research.
Students applying for postgraduate studies are eligible for scholarship support in two-year masters or MPhil courses, whereas students applying for undergraduate studies are eligible for assistance in four-year bachelor’s degree courses.
Applicants should be Pakistani citizens, residents of Pakistan, and have an offer of admission from an eligible degree course in an HEC-approved university.
The British Council has particularly encouraged women from minority communities and applicants with disabilities to apply.
Applications can be submitted online until September 15, 2026.
