ISLAMABAD: Electricity consumers will have to pay Rs0.34 extra for every unit as NEPRA has approved the raise through the monthly fuel cost adjustment mechanism.

According to a notification released by NEPRA, Rs0.34 per unit raise has been approved under the fuel cost adjustment in May 2026 and would apply to all DISCOs’ consumers, including K-Electric.

The additional levy will appear in the electricity bills in July.

Prior to this, CPPA had asked for an increase of Rs 0.82 per unit, which if accepted in full, would burden the consumers with Rs12 billion extra expenses.

According to the data provided by CPPA, 12.638 billion units of electricity were produced in May at an average fuel cost of Rs9.25 per unit compared to the reference fuel cost of Rs8.43 per unit.

The power generation composition in May comprised 33.27 percent from hydroelectricity, 11.66 percent from local coal, 13.54 percent from imported coal, 0.16 percent from furnace oil, 8.31 percent from local gas, 11.81 percent from imported LNG, and 14.25 percent from nuclear fuel.
