MINGORA: Unknown gunmen opened fire on the residence of a local leader of the Awami National Party (ANP) in Swat on Sunday, injuring his brother before later targeting an ambulance transporting the victim to hospital, police said.

The attack took place in the Shakardara area, where assailants fired at the home of Mumtaz Ali Khan, a local ANP leader. His younger brother, Nawab Ali Khan, sustained injuries in the shooting.

According to police, the injured man was being transported to a hospital in a Rescue 1122 ambulance when unidentified attackers allegedly opened fire on the vehicle. The shooting left an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with Rescue 1122 injured.

Local ANP leader Ayub Ashari was present at the hospital when Nawab Ali Khan was brought in for treatment.

Police said additional security personnel have been deployed to the area following the incident. Authorities also received reports that an armoured police vehicle came under fire, although officials said further details were still being verified.
