PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has claimed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protesters are unlikely to cross Attock during their ongoing long march, saying they are aware of the consequences of moving outside the province.
Talking to ARY News channel, Kundi said the protesters would instead remain in Swabi, arguing that the march was unlikely to achieve any meaningful political outcome.
“They will not cross Attock; they will set up camp in Swabi,” Kundi said, adding that the protesters knew what would happen if they took even a single step outside Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Governor Kundi also criticised the PTI leadership over the security situation in the province. He alleged that the former chief minister could not move around at night and accused PTI leaders of failing to take a firm stand against militancy.
He further said that PTI leaders had not attended the funerals of soldiers killed in the fight against terrorism. The allegations were made in the context of his broader criticism of the party’s handling of security issues in the province.
Regarding the ongoing political negotiations, Kundi said he had expected the talks to fail from the outset. He said reports suggested the protesters would stay in Peshawar before moving towards Khyber.
He said that a meeting with Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi had included discussions on the long march, law and order, and negotiations with the opposition.
Kundi’s remarks come amid heightened political tensions surrounding the PTI-led protest movement, with questions remaining over its next destination and whether protesters will attempt to move beyond Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
