Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has issued directives to further strengthen law and order in Malakand, implement zero tolerance policy against terrorism and drugs and timely completion of development projects.

According to media reports, a high-level meeting was held in Malakand division under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi to review law and order, development projects, governance, service delivery and ongoing development schemes. In the meeting, top officials of concerned departments gave detailed briefings on performance of various sectors, ongoing projects and overall law and order situation.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed to complete the investigation into the attacks on parliamentarians in Malakand division as soon as possible and submit a report. He made it clear that protection of lives and property of the people is the primary responsibility of the government and no negligence will be tolerated in this regard.

The Chief Minister said that to further stabilize law and order in the province, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) are being strengthened with modern weapons, technology, equipment and other necessary resources to ensure effective action against terrorism.

The meeting decided to strictly implement the zero tolerance policy against terrorism, extremism and drugs in Malakand division. The Chief Minister directed the concerned agencies to take indiscriminate and decisive action against the law-breaking elements and not to take any concessions.

On development projects, the Chief Minister directed to ensure timely provision of funds for the projects of Pads Hospital and Arshad Sharif University in Swat and said that delays in public welfare projects would not be tolerated.

The meeting also took a number of decisions to improve public facilities. The Chief Minister directed to set up shelters for workers in different districts of Malakand division, provide cold drinking water at public places and ensure availability of fans in view of extreme heat.

He also directed all government agencies to improve service delivery, make public satisfaction the primary performance criterion and continue regular open courts for prompt redressal of public issues. The Chief Minister said that the real measure of the government’s performance is the trust, satisfaction and prosperity of the people, not just files or figures.

The meeting was briefed that 737 development schemes are currently being worked on in Malakand division, while 99 per cent of the development funds for the current fiscal year have been used, leading to effective progress on various projects.

Officials further said that fortification of police buildings is underway to strengthen police infrastructure across the division. Currently, 14 police facility centers are providing services to the public, while 3 more new police facility centers are under construction, after completion of which police services will be available to citizens in a better and easier manner.
