The US struck Iran to respond to a drone attack a day earlier on a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz, which the US President Donald Trump termed a violation of the ceasefire.

US Central Command said the military struck missile and drone locations and coastal radar sites in Iran. The strikes came shortly after Trump told reporters, “You’ll find out,” whether the US would response to the drone attack. US President Donald Trump said the drone attack violated the ceasefire.

“I don’t like the fact that they took a shot yesterday, actually four of them,” Trump said at the White House shortly before the US struck back. When asked why there would be strikes when Trump has insisted talks with Tehran are going well, Trump said of Iran: “They’re a little bit different.”

“Damage was done, but the Ship was able to proceed on its way,” he wrote on Truth Social. “We knocked down three other Drones. Obviously, this is a foolish violation of our Ceasefire Agreement.”

Iran had earlier expressed anger at what it said was an “interventionist, irresponsible and provocative” statement by the United States and six Gulf states that rejected its assertion that it could charge tolls on vessels transiting the strait.

“Safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz cannot be guaranteed under ambiguous arrangements, parallel routes or decision-making that does not take Iran’s role as a coastal state into account,” Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said on X.
