DEHRADUN: Security has been tightened along the Dehradun-Himachal Pradesh border after a group of Nihang Sikhs breached the Kulhal barrier late Monday night, officials confirmed.
The group entered Uttarakhand several hours after a reported dispute with residents in Karnaprayag, Chamoli district india, according to senior administration and police sources.
Police said the sequence began in Karnaprayag, Chamoli Monday, where a confrontation broke out between a group of Nihang Sikhs and local residents.
Following the incident in Chamoli, the group moved westward and reached the Kulhal barrier, the main check post on the Uttarakhand-Himachal Pradesh border near Dehradun, late at night.
Officials said the Nihangs allegedly breached the barrier and entered Uttarakhand without clearance. Immediately after the breach, district and border police stepped up security at Kulhal and adjoining inter-state routes. Additional personnel were deployed, and vehicle checking was intensified at entry points into Uttarakhand from Himachal Pradesh.
Senior officials from Dehradun and Chamoli administration are coordinating to assess the situation in Karnaprayag and prevent further escalation.
Karnaprayag is a key town in Chamoli district on the Badrinath highway, about 200 km northeast of Dehradun. The Kulhal barrier is a major transit point for traffic entering Uttarakhand from Himachal Pradesh. Authorities have not yet disclosed if any arrests were made or if injuries were reported in the Karnaprayag dispute.
