PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police has taken another major step towards strengthening its operational capacity and counterterrorism preparedness, with advanced armoured personnel carriers (APCs), bulletproof vehicles, pickup trucks, forklifts and motorcycles handed over to various districts and police units.
Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed formally handed over the vehicles and equipment at a ceremony held at Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines in Peshawar. Senior police officers, including additional IGs, DIGs and district police officers, attended the ceremony.
The IGP inspected the operational capabilities of the armoured vehicles, double-cabin vehicles and forklifts and received briefings from the relevant officials.
Modern Dragon APCs were provided to Tank, Hangu and Upper Swat, while other APCs were allocated to Upper Dir and Mansehra to enhance police mobility and protection in high-risk areas. Revo vehicles were handed over to the Kohat and Torghar police, while Hiace vans were distributed among police units in Peshawar, Mardan, Swat, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Abbottabad and the Telecommunications Department.
The police also received single- and double-cabin vehicles to improve operational mobility. In addition, 33 forklifts were distributed among various districts and units, while 25 motorcycles were handed over to district police officers.
Speaking on the occasion, IGP Zulfiqar Hameed said the provision of modern vehicles and APCs would significantly enhance the operational capabilities of the KP Police while improving the safety of officers and personnel deployed in terrorism-affected areas.
He said 84 APCs of the provincial police were undergoing upgrades with modern technology to further strengthen their protection and operational capabilities. He added that police vehicles had also been reinforced with side-armouring to ensure safer movement of personnel during patrols.
The IGP said the 33 forklifts provided to various districts would help improve traffic management, address illegal parking and reduce congestion on major roads.
He said the provincial police were being equipped with modern APCs, vehicles, weapons, gadgets and advanced training to improve policing, ensure timely response and strengthen the delivery of public services.
Zulfiqar Hameed said the process of modernizing the KP Police would continue to ensure effective policing and contribute to the long-term maintenance of law and order across the province.
