ISLAMABAD: The strawberry moon will be visible from all parts of Pakistan on the night of June 30.
Astrophysicist Dr. Javed Iqbal said the phenomenon will be observed in different parts of the world on June 29, but in Pakistan, it will be visible on the night of June 30. He further stated that this year’s strawberry moon would also coincide with the “micro moon,” which would make the full moon the smallest of 2026, owing to the increased distance between the Earth and the Moon.
According to Dr. Iqbal, the full moon will have maximum visibility at 4:57 am Pakistan Standard Time on June 30. However, for the public, the celestial body will be visible after sunset in a golden color in the eastern part of the sky.
It is worth mentioning here that the Strawberry Moon will continue to shine for three days starting June 28 and ending on June 30.
The term “Strawberry Moon” originates from Native American traditions, where June’s full moon marked the strawberry harvesting season. Despite its name, the moon does not appear pink or red, although atmospheric conditions can sometimes give it a warm golden or reddish tint near the horizon
Astronomers have suggested that people watch the moon from a place that is not surrounded by light from the cities.
If the weather permits, the unique astronomical event will become visible without the aid of any instrument in most parts of Pakistan.
