ISLAMABAD: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced a two-day public holiday on the occasion of Youm-e-Ashura, during which all commercial and government banks across the country will remain closed.

According to an official notification, banks will remain shut on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, corresponding to June 25 (Thursday) and June 26 (Friday), in line with the government’s decision to observe public holidays.

The central bank stated that all SBP offices, as well as public and private sector banks, will remain closed for public dealing during the two-day holiday period.

Banking operations will resume as normal on Monday, June 29, after the extended break.

The SBP advised citizens to complete their essential banking transactions before the holiday period to avoid inconvenience.

However, the central bank clarified that digital banking services, including online banking, mobile applications, and ATMs, will remain operational throughout the holiday period, allowing customers to access basic financial services.

The announcement comes as part of nationwide arrangements for the observance of Youm-e-Ashura, one of the most significant religious occasions in the Islamic calendar.
