Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir are likely to travel to Bürgenstock, Switzerland, where technical-level talks between the United States and Iran under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding are scheduled to take place on Sunday.

The PM Office has been directed to make preparations for the possible visit. According to sources, the prime minister’s departure will depend on the arrival of US Vice-President JD Vance in Switzerland.
According to the Foreign Office, the discussions will review progress made since the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The technical negotiations are aimed at assessing developments and implementation efforts undertaken under the agreement between the United States and Iran.

Officials expect the talks to focus on advancing commitments made under the framework established by the Islamabad MoU. The Foreign Office spokesperson said representatives from the United States, Iran, Pakistan and Qatar will participate in the technical-level discussions taking place in Bürgenstock.

Pakistan, according to the spokesperson, will continue facilitating the dialogue process as a mediator, with the objective of moving forward the understanding agreed under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. Islamabad has maintained that it will continue its role in supporting efforts aimed at advancing the peace process.

The Foreign Ministry sources also said PM Shehbaz is expected to attend an international water treaty conference in Switzerland, where discussions will take place on global water resource management and agreements related to water issues.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is also expected to participate in the talks being held in Switzerland. The Pakistani delegation is expected to highlight the country’s position on important diplomatic and technical matters while working towards further progress under the memorandum.
